Cheese Art ,
a venture in the heart of the Mediterranean for the
Mediterranean. A celebration of Sicilian expression and
the apotheosis of European and Mediterranean culture,
history, traditions, landscapes, rural architecture, and
craftsmen and women who practice their centuries old
art. All aspects will culminate to create an island of
synergy where these worlds mingle and honor their
diversity.
The Consorzio Ricerca Filiera Lattiero – Casearia (CoRFiLaC),
an organization located in Ragusa, organized Cheese Art
2002. It took place in the charming atmosphere of the
Donnafugata Castle. That was the third grandiose
celebration dedicated to the rarities of Mediterranean
dairy products featuring more than 220 artisan cheeses
coupled with the best 143 sicilian wines, the best 31
sicilian oils, salami and other
traditional products.
The dream and motivation of CoRFiLaC with Cheese Art is
to give dignity and pride to traditional production
systems, integrating the world of research with the
world of eno-gastronomy through a renaissance of taste.
Cheese Art 2002 was an
event visited by more than 30 thousand people; here,
also partecipated internationally recognized researchers and
more than 100 journalists, buyers, enologists, cheese makers and
aficionados of artisan cheese,
high quality catering services, and consumers who
appreciated traditional flavors and pleasures of the
fine table that are based on the highest quality prime
materials that heighten not only organoleptic but also
sensorial experiences.
Our goal was to stimulate the renaissance of our region
and its gastronomic heritage. We inspired tourists and aficionados to explore our region and
discover new flavors -- uncovering and understanding the
heritage of our traditional foods, cheeses, and
gastronomy. We guided people in a whirling
exultation of aromas and tastes – authentic flavors
that invigorated the palate and expand the senses.
This “renaissance” of food helped people's palate to
taste
the quality of sicilian dishes and illustrated the
quality of region’s life.
Not only food, Cheese Art 2002 featured a series of
events that magnified the cultural testimony of
others where classic literature, architecture, music,
philosophy, and customs have intertwined themselves with
the wealth of history and tradition of a land that has
endless dominance leaving one with the feeling of always
wanting more to look at, to feel, and to see.
