CoRFiLaC, Consorzio Ricerca Filiera Lattiero-Casearia, organizes
from June 27 to July 2, 2006, in the historical and suggestive setting
of the Castle of Donnafugata in Ragusa, the V edition of Cheese
Art: Biennial Event of Culture and Science dedicated to Traditional
Dairy and Agribusiness products of Mediterranean countries.
Cheese Art has alwais had two main objectives: to integrate the world of
research with the world of agriculture, and to valorize the traditional
production systems, the dairy and agribusiness products typical of
the Mediterranean area.
In this regard, CoRFiLaC’s attention is not exclusively oriented
towards the products, but also, and especially, toward “Man.” It
is “Man” who, with his artisanal productions, harmonizes and
dominates the natural factors, exalts its biodiversity, and creates
products indissolubly tied to the territory. In CoRFiLaC’s vision,
thus, the Revival of the territory is seen through the Revival of the
Taste.
Right from the start, Cheese Art has been one of the most
important destinations for those travelers who would like to see the
real Sicily: Land of culture that manufactures products originating
from a synthesis of experience and passion; products that excite the
consumers for their uniqueness and intensity of aromas, flavors and
colors: All of which, here at Cheese Art, are expression of a sunny
and strong Sicily.
The best of the Sicilian and Mediterranean productions will be on
display at Cheese Art 2006 for buyers, national and international
operators in the agribusiness sector, press, TV networks, researchers
and travelers.
Cheese Art goes beyond the classical wine and food events. At
Cheese Art the worlds of Culture, Science and Politics converge
for meetings and cooperation. Starting from the re-discovery
of the values of tradition, dignitaries and experts examine the
strategies that need to be implemented to permit a truly sustainable
development, which, in the end, revolves around “Man,” his Hope,
his Wisdom and the treasure of his Experience. At Cheese Art 2006,
CoRFiLaC has chosen to represent its strong social commitment
through special testimonials: Women, Young, and Elders.
WISDOM:
Women and Development of Emerging Countries.
HOPE:
Young People, Consumers of the Third Millennium.
EXPERIENCE:
The Elders, Conscious Consumers of Today.
Scientific Conferences and Seminars will be dedicated to these topics in order to investigate the importance of the three figures, “Women, Young and Elders”, as protagonists of the recovery, qualification and valorization of historical productions in rural Mediterranean World and Emerging countries. Among the most important initiatives that will be presented at Cheese Art 2006, the launch of the project international Professional Women Opportunity: iPWO stands out. This project aspires to realize, inside CoRFiLaC’s facility, a “place” of thought, that is, a place in which sharing the know-how, exchanging information and interacting for technical and scientific aspects becomes possible. The network will be employed to assist women of developing countries involved in productive rural activities. Thus, CoRFiLaC aspires to become a permanent reference center supporting the growth of these small entrepreneurial realities. Cheese Art 2006 will also host a number of established events, orientated toward the promotion and recognition of the cultural value of traditional agribusiness products. There will be events that in the past editions were successful such as: “Parlamento del Gusto,” “Sapori in Grotta,” Tasting Cheese, Historical Food Crafts, Cheese Bar, Live Cheese-making of Historical Sicilian Cheeses, Sicilian Ricotta Cheese, Cities of Cheese, Competitions for Cheese-maker and Affineur, Exciting Beer and Jazz, Pizza-Cheese & Beer. Among the novelties of this edition, the Outdoor Market will have an extraordinary space: the court of the Castle of Donnafugata, dedicated to the spices of the classical “Suk of Med”, the vegetables growing in the torrents, the homemade preserves, the street traders of cheeses, salami and fish and, finally, the Street Food. The cultural highlight of Cheese Art 2006 will consist in the celebration of events dedicated to the Sicilian author Gesualdo Bufalino, marking the 10th anniversary of his death. The event will be enriched also with painting and photography exhibitions, concerts dedicated to the land, wine, and sheep farming. All this is done in homage to a Sicily that wants to feel, see, tell and scream, scream out loud the honesty and creativity of her children.
