At Cheese Art 2006, CoRFiLaC will present the project international Professional Women OpportunityiPWO, whose strategic philosophy is to create a place of thought, know-how, cultural exchange, as well as a place of interaction for the technical and scientific aspects to be located at the CoRFiLaC facility. This place will allow women of developing countries to have a permanent center of reference supporting their growth and their needs.
Manifesto iPWO
The sustenance of a large part of the population in the emerging countries is based on insufficient agricultural systems, managed by household operations. In this social and economic structure, women have a crucial role, since they are responsible for the manufacture and marketing of their products. These communities often live isolated, and possess an insufficient level of education. Under these circumstances, it becomes very hard to solve the day-by-day problems that a farmer has to face, thus reducing the productive levels of these already small operative units. The extreme poverty of the rural centers inevitably causes a slow and unstoppable migration toward the cities. Because of this, on one hand, the land suffers further degradation; on the other, the urban centers experience a worsening of the conditions of poverty, and their economical and social resources become unable to provide for all. For the past fifteen years, CoRFiLaC has worked in the dairy sector, by offering its scientific and technical expertise to safeguard traditional productions. The strength of its strategy derives from the ability of exalting the typical character of the niche products, valorizing the links with the land, and finding their unique biodiversity characteristics. In the next ten years, CoRFiLaC intends to undertake a concrete collaboration with the emerging countries. Under this strategy, there exist a profound belief that the identity of the numerous ethnic groups in the developing regions, with their ancient cultures, traditions, and lifestyle must be considerate as a point of strength with which to project an economical and social revival, and not a weakness that needs to be corrected. CoRFiLaC is launching the project international Professional Women Opportunity - iPWO, which aims to create an international network able to give permanent technical support to the women of emerging countries, who are undertaking rural activities and, in particular, dairy productions.
In synthesis, the plan of intervention aims to:
Identify rural communities and women leaders with whom to develop the project iPWO.
Involve centers operating in the sector of Information and Communication Technology in the countries of interest.
Realize an advanced technological infrastructure, that allows an intense data exchange
Create an international scientific network, centered in CoRFiLaC, guaranteeing a qualified technical support to women farmers.

The details of the proposal iPWO are described on www.ipwo.org and will be presented at Cheese Art 2006.
